- TRY THE SPIRIT
https://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/TRY THE SPIRIT A stern warning from Jesus is given in Matthew 24:24-25, For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Apostle John also warned us about types of spirit. 1st John 4:1 , Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Many persons often refer to themselves as being spiritual. This means that there is a spiritual connection somewhere. However, we must be careful about our spiritual connection because there is an evil spirit and a good spirit. The evil spirit is a false spirit, a gift from Satan. The good spirit is the Holy Ghost, it displays a Christ-like disposition. In these times there is much controversy about the reception and operation of the Holy Spirit. This is not a new development because the stalwarts of the Bible had to contend with spiritual oppositions. That is why John 4:1 tells us not to believe every spirit because there are many spirits in the world. Those with a false spirit are agents of the Devil and they will function as false prophets. The true messengers of God have a true connection with God. False prophets are everywhere masquerading as saints. Satan knows that the best way to obstruct the forth-telling of the gospel is to put pretenders in position of authority. In this way they can attempt to thwart the Ministry. These pretenders preach and teach false doctrines in their attempt to be crowd pleasers. How do you know the Spirit of God? Those who possesses the Spirit of God will profess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. They must not only do this but they must follow the examples set by our Master. The Child of God who is on the right path does not display actions that God hates. These behavioural practices are outlined in Proverbs 6:16-19, six things doth the Lord hates, yea, the seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. The Spirit of God which is the Holy Spirit motivates the believer to walk righteously and humbly before God. It is the Spirit of God which strengthens and keeps believers during daily turmoil. It is this spirit which gives a settled peace and generates obedience to God’s Commandments. Have you ever felt as if you are in a state of spiritual shipwreck and you feel as if you cannot cope? In your time of gloom do you feel a sense of hope and inner peace? This refreshing feeling which you had experienced is the Holy Spirit. It is the power of God which gives reassurance and tranquility. There is not a Child of God who is able to cope with the trials of this life without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Even those who reject Christ cannot exist without His mercies exercised through the Holy Spirit. The False Spirit A false spirit genders strife, envy, debate, bitterness, deceit, seditions, discord and every act of demonic influence. One who claims to be a believer and displays such behaviours may deceive the unperceiving but is exposed to those of godly understanding. The false spirit does not give peace so one who possesses such will always be stirring trouble internally. Let us pray Eternal and Most Worthy Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. We thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit and we ask that You forgive us of our sins and purify us so that we can obtain Your Indwelling Power. We desire to be vessels of honour for You, therefore we beseech You to remove from us any spiritual connections which are contrary to Your righteousness. Father, we ask that You grant us wisdom so that we will be able to discern between purity and evil in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback. - THE BELIEVER'S FOUNDATION
https://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ 1st Corinthians 3:11 , For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. There are many foundations in this world but they can be placed into two main categories - spiritual and a carnal. The spiritual foundation gives life. It was the spiritual foundation which had caused the woman at the well of Samaria to throw away her waterpot and run saying, ‘ come see a man. ’ The carnal foundation takes away life. It brings death and because of it God’s wrath will be poured out on the disobedient and the terrible words depart from me I know you not will be uttered. Each of us has an opportunity to select our foundation. I desire to speak to you about the believer’s foundation . This foundation is set in Christ because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Isaiah 9: 6 is a prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. It tells us, For, unto us a child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon His shoulder and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace . The Scriptures said the government shall be upon His shoulder; this means the He is above all God’s creation and has the spiritual responsibility of redeeming us to God. He is the Mediator between God and man; not only is He a mediator but He is also the Saviour of mankind. Through Him only can one access everlasting life. Jesus is also referred to as the Mighty God and He is truly the Mighty God. His Father gave Him the power to create things. Jesus is referred to as the Word . John 1:1 tells us that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. This does not mean that the Godhead consists of Jesus only because Jesus Himself stated that He has a Father. This Scripture points to the bond and oneness between the Father and the Son. Jesus also said if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father . Colossians 1:16 tells us, ‘ For by Him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominion or principalities or powers all things were created by Him and for Him. Psalm 33: 9 tells us that - God spoke and it was done He commanded and it stood fast . It was the Word spoken that created things. Jesus is the Prince of Peace; every Child of God must have peace. If you are a Child of God and you do not have peace you need to return to Calvary. John 14: 27 records Jesus saying, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Our Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace that is why Children of God cannot be brawlers, mockers, jeerers and such because we are called for peace. Isaiah 9: 7 also said of the increase of His government there shall be no end. This is reassuring us that although we are living in this world and enduring trials and tribulations yet we have peace. We have peace within our hearts. Though the world is falling apart we are at peace because it is within our hearts. One cannot be a Child of God and be so troubled and uneasy that you are unable to sleep well or develops hypertension or similar illnesses due to unnecessary stress. Jesus, being the Government of Peace is for the world to come; it is not for this world. The Scriptures tell us that the devil will be destroyed and God shall establish a kingdom of Peace. Isaiah 28:16 tells us, ‘ Therefore, thus saith the Lord God, behold I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone a sure foundation he that believeth shall not make haste . When reference is made of Zion it is speaking either about Jerusalem or the Church of God. The Church of God is purchased and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus bore our transgressions and suffered much for our redemption. Thus, Jesus is our Tried Stone . Isaiah 53: 5 tells us, He was wound for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquity the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed. Sometimes as we go through our daily activities we often feel pressured and believe that we cannot go any further but we can because we can get the needed strength from God. Apostle Paul also had his moments of weakness and while in such situation he reassured himself and us with the thought that God’s grace is sufficient and His grace is made perfect in weakness. 2nd Corinthians 12:9, And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Having this confidence, our troubles should never create a blockage in our spiritual lives. We should recognise and allow the power of God to be our strength. Be reminded that we should never place our confidence in man. Psalm 118:8 tells us, it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Proverbs 25:19 says, confidence is an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth and a foot out of joint. While Jesus was traversing this earth, He had many followers many of whom were following Him for their own selfish reasons. Among those closest to Him was a betrayer, a doubter, one who denied and those who were concerned about position of authority. Jesus knew they were there but He placed His confidence in His Father. He knew that God is ever faithful. Based on Jesus’ experience we know that God desires us to suffer and remain faithful. Yes, it is possible to go through your trials and remain faithful remember that for every problem -the solution is Jesus. Jesus suffered as a Tried Stone, He was beaten, mocked and jeered yet He remembered His mission and remained faithful. Jesus did not get any extra assistance to endure all these trials He was in human form just like you and me, therefore just as He suffered and endured you and I could too. If we only knew the power of our God we would not be moved by trivial things. Jesus is also called a Precious Stone. He is a priceless stone, a rare stone. In Exodus 28 the High Priest’s garment had on 12 precious stones set in the breastplate of judgement. On each stone was written the name of an Israelite tribe. Also, two onyx stones were on the ephod which went over the priest’s shoulders. One stone on each shoulder and on each stone was written six names of the tribes. The engravings were done in gold. Today we have no priest wearing the names on his shoulders or on his chest. Instead, there is only one Stone; Jesus Christ is the Precious Stone which represents us all to our Eternal God. Having such a firm foundation believers should not be unstable and be swayed by every wind of doctrine or carnal desires. Every child of God should run the spiritual race and finish the course by God’s grace. Do you remember how Jesus slept while the ship was rocking? The other passengers were panicking but He was assured of His Father’s protection. When He was awakened, He calmly stood and said peace be still and everything became calm. This proves that God is the Real Authority. Therefore, as the storms howl in your lives be calm and spend a moment to speak to God; only He can give an environment of serenity and calm. If you have not yet acknowledged the saving and sustaining power of Christ, accept Him today. He is our Sure Foundation. Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback. - Spiritual Growth through Forgiveness and Reconciliation
http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ What is sin? Sin is the transgression of the law. In Matthew 22:37-40, "Jesus said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with thy entire mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." These two Commandments is a summary of the Ten Commandments. The first four Commandments signify love to God and the other six signify love to our neighbours. Any violation of the Commandments is a sin. When we commit sin, we put up a wall between ourselves and God. God loves us deeply, but He hates sin so much that it causes separation between man and God. Although we rebel against God, He loves us so much that He sent His only Son to redeem us. Our sins are numerous and only the power of God can release us from our tendency to commit evil. The only way our sins can be forgiven, is when we receive the gift of salvation which Jesus made available through His death on the cross. We are forgiven through Jesus Christ and reconciled to the Father by Him. Forgiveness and reconciliation are the most important tenets of the gospel. Without forgiveness of our sins, we face eternal separation from God. Anybody who dies being separated from God will be burnt to ash. Although we crave Christ’s forgiveness, we are often unwilling to forgive others. When a person sin against us, the negative thoughts enter and a wall of separation is set up between us and the offender. This wall becomes a roadblock which hinders us from loving others as Christ loves us. Roadblocks breed bitterness and unforgiveness. It is not good to hold grudges. Remember that Jesus died to tear down the roadblocks between us and God which is caused by our sin and we are required to do the same to those who wrong us. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:15, ‘ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” During life’s journey there will be times when we must try to restore broken relationships with another person. Restoration is important because Jesus told us to love one another as Christ has loved us. Sometimes this may mean swallowing our pride and going to the person and tell them that you regret what you've done. Yes, you ought to try to restore broken relationship. Matthew 5:23-24 says, " Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there, thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift." If you have wronged somebody and it has caused them to have something against you, then you should go to that person and try make things right? If the individual has offended you, you should be willing to forgive. Think wisely and do to others as you desire them to do to you. You must strive for reconciliation. Remember, your goal is to be reconciled with that person. Matthew 7:12, " Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." It is often a lot easier for some persons to forgive others when they come and confess their sin than for them to ask for forgiveness. However, I would encourage everyone to ask for forgiveness and heal any seen or unseen rifts. When you go to somebody and ask for their forgiveness, you are helping them to break down the roadblock that the enemy may have put in their way. You are aiding them in removing an obstacle in their life that may be preventing them from living the life that Jesus wants them to live. Your actions will assist in breaking down a wall that the enemy has tried to setup between you and them. After meeting Christ, your thoughts, actions and responses to situations will change. In your Christ like state, you will ponder your past behaviours and the Spirit of God will show you where you went wrong. As you identify persons whom you have offended it is imperative that you see them and discuss the issue. I know that it is impossible to remember everything or to go to everyone you have offended. To ask you to do so is legalism, and such request puts a burden on you. However, don’t be daunted, try your best to restore all the possible relationships and do not ignore any available opportunities. Restoration is not to be undertaken by mere human efforts but through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives direction and will make the impossible possible. You may find it harder to forgive yourself than to forgive others. There is no need to unnecessary affliction yourself. Psalm 32:1 tells us, ‘ blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is hidden. ’ We are further reminded in Psalm 103:12 that, ‘ as far as the east is from the west so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.’ We need to stop blaming ourselves for not being good enough, and accept the fact that our sins have been forgiven. 1st John 1:9 reminds us that, “ if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When God forgives us of our sins, He does not keep a record. In Isaiah 43:25 God said, “ I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake and will not remember thy sins ” In order to receive forgiveness, we must first recognize that we have sinned, confess our sins, and then believe upon Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. Remember that without the blood which Jesus shed on the cross, there is no forgiveness for our sins True repentance includes turning from our sins, and not continuing to walk in them. If you seem to struggle with compulsive sinful habits, you may need to be set free from a demonic influence. It may be necessary to renounce your sins out loud seek the Lord diligently through fasting and prayer. Never let the devil blackmail you with guilt. Guilt can serve two purposes, it can show us the problem so that we might repent and receive forgiveness, or it can rub our mistake in our faces and make us feel hopeless. The Devil is known for putting guilt on people, and is known as the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). There is a vast difference between condemnation and conviction? First, I'd like you to ask yourself, "Why am I feeling guilty? What is the purpose of this guilt?" There is a force which generates your guilt; it could be God or it could be the enemy. God uses guilt to convict us of our sins so that we might change and make things better, whereas the enemy uses guilt to burden us down and make us feel hopeless about what we have done. When God convicts us, it's so that we might recognize the problem, and work on fixing it. When the enemy condemns us, it's to make you feel like there is nothing you can do about it, and give you a terrible hopeless feeling. Therefore, ask yourself, "Is this guilt trying to bring me to repentance, or is it trying to tell me what a wretched sinner I am?" God’s desire is that we may be reconciled with Him and receive forgiveness from our sins. The enemy likes to show you the mess, while God wants to show you the solution. If you have sins that you have not repented from, then by all means, repent and turn from your wicked ways!! If your sins are forgiven and the enemy is burdening you down with guilt, you may have to renounce the spirit of guilt, and command it to leave. Also, resist the Devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). It is God's desire for us to believe upon His Son, Jesus for the remission of our sins, and to have a clean conscience that has been cut off from our past guilt. Hebrews 9:14 tells us, “ How much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” Hebrews 10:22 encourages us to, “ draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water .” Jesus’ love is limitless 1st John 2:12 assures that our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake. Jesus’ love is boundless. He is always ready to forgive. Therefore, put your guilt at His feet and He will make your life new. I also encourage you to forgive those who had offended you and also to seek the forgiveness from those whom you have offended. Unforgiveness destroys your inner peace and outward beauty. It makes you sick physically and spiritually. Do not give the devil the opportunity to use your own bitterness to destroy you. Ask the Lord to help you to roll away all obstacles that the enemy may have put in your way. When you forgive you are also assisting those who hurt you. Your actions will assist in breaking down a wall that the enemy has tried to setup between you and them. Let the peace of God reign within you always. PRAYER Father, I commit myself to You. Please help me to forgive as I desire You to forgive me. Please cleanse me of all bitterness and strife and give me a spirit of peace and love. Thanks for the gift of salvation and reconciliation and may I be more Christlike. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback. - REPENT
GENUINE REPENTANCE LEADS TO CONVERSION http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ If you are to obtain everlasting life you must repent . Repentance is expressing a godly sorrow for all the sinful acts committed. When you repent, you will stop doing the wrong and do what is right in God’s sight. It is sad that though the words of God often expose sin and may bring about a feeling of remorse; people often refuse to repent. This is one reason why there is so much spasmodic religious behaviour within the assemblies. As soon as the ‘feel good’ feeling leaves the mind then the departure from the house of God begins. It is only through repentance of sin and acceptance of Jesus that one will stay in the faith. Unrepentant hearts is the reason for dismal and lacklustre worship. To the unrepentant churchgoers it is very hard to serve God in spirit and truth. They think it a great trial to give up their ungodly companions and their sins. They do not enjoy a strong spiritual relationship; they are not cheerful and happy in the Master’s service. They are grieved because they have to break off from so many things which they love; they have to give up so much. Let it be known that true repentance leads to an abhorrence of those sinful things which were formerly loved. God constantly calls for us to repent. Noah’s friends laboured on the ark but they were drowned because they did not accept the repentance message. They listened to Noah and helped him to build the ark but they did not believe that God was going to use a flood to cleanse the earth. They thought that Noah was not in his right mind. Moreover, they were enjoying their sinful lifestyle and had no intention to stop what they were doing. Nineveh was a very prosperous city and the people practiced wickedness. They were idolaters who never worshipped the True and Living God although they would have heard about Him. When the people of Nineveh became sin sick, God sent Jonah to warn them. Jonah did not know that they would have been responsive to his message so he did not want to go but he had to because God’s decision is final. The people repented, urgently called on God and gave up their evil and violence ways (Jonah 3:5-10) In Luke chapter 15 verses 11-24, we read about a parable which Jesus told about a wayward son and a loving father. The prodigal son left home to enjoy the life he thought that he deserved but he received sufferings instead. He became repentant after he felt the pangs of hunger and he became ashamed of his wretched state. He put aside his pride and decided that he was returning home. He was unsure of how his father and other family members would react to him returning home. On reaching home, he told his father that he acknowledged that he had sinned against heaven and against God and was no longer worthy to be called a son. His father welcomed him joyfully. That’s how God will react when we repent of our sins and return to Him. Remember man was made to worship God and God loves when we sincerely worship Him. Christ told Peter that he would deny Him three times. Peter never believed that he could do such. When Peter actually denied Christ, he wept bitterly. (Luke 22:61,62). He realized his mistake and repented. After his repentance Peter became a mighty man of God. He was an outstanding ambassador and won many souls to Christ. Wouldn’t you want to be like Peter; all it takes is a repentant heart. In Isaiah 55:7 we are encouraged to forsake our wicked way and evil thoughts and turn to the Lord. Jeremiah 26:13 tells us to change our ways and our actions and obey the Lord. Do you realize that if you are not obeying God, you are serving the Devil? Many do not see the importance of repentance but please follow the instructions of Psalm 32:5 - acknowledge your sins to God; don't cover up your iniquity and confess your transgressions to the Lord. If you do these things you will find everlasting life. WHAT IS TRUE REPENTANCE? True repentance means: You confess your sins 1st. John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness . You don’t conceal sins, but confess what you have committed and seek God’s mercy. You renounce your sins by doing what is right, and get a new heart and a new spirit. When you repent you turn away from all your offenses; rid yourself of all the offenses True repentance gives you a change of heart; and motivates you to plead with God and turn back to Him with all your heart and soul. After repentance the Devil will be after you, therefore you must trust God to lead you in times of temptation. Repentance causes you to sow good seeds, your actions are good, just and right. Like Daniel you pray for the sins of the nation, and seek the favour of the LORD by living holy and giving attention to God's truth (Dan. 9:4,5) When you have repented you stop doing wrong, learn to do right, seek justice, encourage the oppressed and defend the less fortunate. Only through repentance can you hold on to faith and a good conscience (1st. Timothy 1:19) Your zeal to be righteous will lead you to pray for strength to rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and filthy language from your lips. (Col. 3:5-10). You will make every effort to obey God and to walk the strait way. A repentant heart is ashamed of past sins, think about God’s mercy, follow God's statutes and spend time meditating on God’s words. When all of this is done God will give a new heart and a new spirit. Do you need to repent? Ask God to search you and know your heart; test you and know your thoughts; and remove any offensive way in you and lead you in the way everlasting (Psa. 139:23,24). Don’t live according to the sinful nature, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. Put to death every sinful behaviour and trust in the Lord for strength. By God’s grace keep yourself from idolatry and from being polluted by the world, put to death whatever belongs to your earthly nature; rid yourself of all anger, rage, malice, slander, lies, fornication, covetousness, and filthy language from your lips. (Col. 3:5-10) Rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind; crave pure spiritual milk (1st. Peter 2:1,2) Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech; turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it (1st. Peter 3:10,11) Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with God (2nd. Peter 3:14) Have godly sorrow and an earnest desire to clear yourself (2nd. Corinthians 7:10,11) Have a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17) Fear God and hate your sin (Psa. 36:1,2). Don't share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure (1st Timothy 5:22) Avoid all sins listed in 1st. Corinthians 6: 9,10; Ephesians 5:3-7; Galatians 5:19-21 and Revelation 21:8 Make restitution for things you stole (Exodus 22:3-17; Luke 19:8-10) Come near to God; wash your hands; purify your hearts; grieve, mourn and wail; change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom; humble yourself before God (James 4:8-10) David said,' I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. My dear Readers, I trust that you will see the important of repenting of your sins. Our Lord’s Vineyard needs workers. There are numerous souls who need to learn about God’s boundless love. Won’t you accept the challenge. Accept Jesus as your Saviour today and have hope of everlasting life. Let us Pray Loving Father, I thank You for the opportunity to turn from my evil ways. Thanks for sending Your Beloved Son, to die for me. I am not worthy of such love but through Your grace I am redeemed. There is much ungodliness happening in this world; yet You have not given up on us. I pray that everyone who hungers and thirst for You will find You and live in obedience to Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback. You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com
- SALVATION –EMANCIPATION-FREEDOM
SALVATION gives –EMANCIPATION and everlasting-FREEDOM http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ 1st John 3:1- Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore, the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not . Romans 8:1 -“ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Humans were created to worship God but we made a choice to disobey Him. Our disobedience to God has placed us into slavery. When we are enslaved by sin, Satan becomes our master. Thanks be to God for His grace of salvation which we receive through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. God not only offers us salvation; He provides for our daily needs. Life is filled with numerous problems which comes in many forms. One ever present challenge is your day-to-day survival as you try to make two ends meet. Every day the cost of living keeps increasing and this may cause you to be unable to satisfy your daily material needs as you desire. As you reflect on this problem you may feel a sense of hopelessness and frustration. However, be reminded that regardless of how you feel there is hope ahead. Do not become so despondent that you would prefer to end your life in an untimely manner. How are you feeling now? Are you really happy and contented or are you tangled in a web of despair as you struggle to make ends meet? Do you feel as if you are alone and no one cares for you? Do you feel like a failure? How do you feel about the future? Are you feeling secure knowing that spiritually, physically and materially you are ready to enter the future or are you just going along unaware or in fear of what the future holds? Jesus told you that you should not be overly concerned about your daily needs because worrying will not supply your needs. He said that God will supply all your needs therefore you should trust Him. Jesus said that instead of worrying about material and physical things you should first seek after the Kingdom of God and then God will supply your needs according to His desire for your life. (Matthew 6: 25-34) Before sin entered Adam and Eve never experienced worry, because God supplied everything for them. They began to worry after they disobeyed God and the real problem started when God drove them from the Garden. God gave us Ten Commandments which we ought to obey. They are our guideposts to righteousness. 1st John 3:4 tells us, “whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the Law; for sin is the transgression of the Law .” It is the Ten Commandments which expose our sins and our conscience convicts us that we are not walking in unity with God. Hebrew 9:27 tells us that it is appointed unto men once to die but after this comes the judgement. Death is the most important appointment which everyone will ever keep. Thus, it is important that while we prepare for our important day to day activities and responsibilities we prepare for our final departure. Death is so very final. Why do people die? This is a question that has been a troubling question throughout the ages. This is because it is humans’ desire to live forever. Most persons do not want to die although life in general is so unpredictable. God created the universe by His might and excellence. He used six days to work and He rested and fellowshipped on the seventh day which is called the Sabbath. On the sixth day of Creation, God created man to enjoy this earth and all its beauty. The earth and the humans were pure; there was no sin. However, this changed when Lucifer contended with God and was driven out of Heaven. He came to the earth with bitterness in his heart and the determination to spoil the friendship which humans had with God. He succeeded when he got Eve to believe his lie and both Adam and Eve sinned against God. They were told by God that they could eat from the tree of life but were not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They ate the fruit which God had told them not to eat. Many believe that this fruit was sexual but it is not. The Bible teaches us that the first task God gave to man was to procreate. Genesis 2:27, And God blessed them and God said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth …...” Thus, it is that we understand that God had given Adam and Eve the command to engage in sexual intercourse. When sin entered this earth, everything changed. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. ” Death became the reward for sin. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin takes away our freedom and places us in bondage. Sin separates us from God. Can we regain our relationship with God? Yes, we can. Jesus is our Freedom Fighter and Emancipator. He left His Heavenly throne and came to this earth where He was born as a babe and lived as a Servant of God. His mission was to redeem us back to God. Only He could complete such an awesome task. Alleluia!!! Praises be to His name. Acts 4:12 tells us, “ Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved .” John the Baptist was the forerunner for Jesus. He came to make persons aware that Jesus was coming as a Saviour to offer hope to the hopeless. Therefore, when he saw Jesus he proclaimed, Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) Before Christ came to die for us. Animals were sacrificed and their blood was offered as an atonement for sins. Just as we now pray daily to the Lord so would sacrifices be offered daily in the Temple. People would take their sacrifices so the Priests were very busy. Offering daily sacrifices for sin was a very tedious task so God had to set aside the tribe of Levi to minister in His Temple and to follow His instructions and http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ execute the different Laws of the Ordinances. Once annually there is a National Day of Sacrifice. This day is the Day of Atonement. On this day the High Priest in Israel would offer sacrifice to atone for the sins of the people. The blood of animals, the different offerings and ordinances were insufficient to suffice for the sins of mankind. A much better sacrifice was needed. Hebrews 9:28 tells us “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation .” Yes, while under the Old Covenant the Priests had to offer sacrifice daily; it is not so under the New Covenant. Jesus only died once and His offering is still valid today. Thus, it is, that when Jesus died on the cross the Old Blood Covenant was broken and we are now enjoying a New Covenant. Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Are you enjoying the freedom which He gives? If you have not accepted God’s plan of salvation you have not yet begun to live. Why is salvation necessary for us? Sins makes salvation necessary. The word salvation has its root in the word salvage. When you accept Christ as your personal Saviour He will reclaim your life from the clutches of the Devil. He is the only One with the power and authority to dispel every dark cloud and to renew your life. Sin destroys and often causes what seems to be irreparable damages. It destroys lives and relationships. As you travel along the roadways you will observe many wrecked vehicles; some are so badly damaged that all you can see is twisted metal. This is how lives wrecked by sin will seem. While humans are unable to repair the remains of a wrecked vehicle God is able to repair anything no matter how damaged. Come to Christ and experience real love, freedom and friendship. Escape the bondage of sin. Let Him remodel your life. Only Christ can emancipate us from the slavery of sin. Writer - A. E. - WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DEATH?
What will happen after you die? Are you worried about dying? Are you spiritually prepared for dying? God gives us life and we are accountable for what we have done between birth and death. http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ The clock of life is wound but once, no one has the power to tell when the hand will stop. Now is the time you own, live, love, toil with a will. Place no thought on tomorrow for the hand may then be still.” Everyone would want to live forever, but the breath of life is given to man for a limited time. Psalm 90:10 says “ The days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years….. it is soon cut off, and we fly away” Therefore we are aware that man was not placed on earth to live forever. As a result we are encouraged to seek the Lord while the blood is running warm in our veins. All of us have an appointment with death: Hebrews 10:27 says, “ And it is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgement. What happens when one dies? The Bible says; when one dies his thoughts perish. “ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish (Psalms 146: 4). Man did not become a living soul until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life in Genesis 2:7. Therefore man returns to being a dead soul once the breath of life is removed from him. Ecclesiastes 9:56 says “ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love and their hatred and their envy is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in anything that is done under the sun.” No one will be able to accept the Lord as a Saviour after death as the Psalmist states in Psalm 6:5 “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?” Psalm 115:7 clearly points out that the dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down in silence . However, a chance remains for those persons who did not know or hear about Jesus before they died. Such persons will be given the opportunity to choose or reject Him during the one thousand years reign of Christ. In John 11:25 Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me though he were dead, yet shall he live.” Here one is promised life after death. How can one receive this? Proverbs 14:32 says “ The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.” Jesus told His disciples that if a man keeps His sayings, he shall never see death. The sleep of death will end for the Saints when Jesus returns and just as how Jesus rose from the dead, Saints will also rise to be like Him. Psalm 49:15 tells us that God will redeem our soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive us . Are you a Child of God? If you are, even after dying you have a special privilege as we are told that the dead in Christ will rise first (1st Thessalonians 4:16). There is the promise that the hour is coming when all that are in the grave shall hear the voice of our Saviour. We will come forth and those who have done good unto the resurrection of life and those who did evil to the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29). It is good to live a life for God and receive the resurrection of life, a wonderful promise given to the Saints. This reward will only be to those who keep the Commandments of God and the Testimony of Jesus. It is commonly believed that a person who dies goes to heaven but the Bible declares that “ No man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven…” John 3:13. When one dies that person remains in the grave in an unconscious state until the day of judgement or until Jesus comes to collect the Saints. Read Revelation 20. You are not without hope my friend, believe now on Jesus. Live in obedience to the will of God and when Jesus returns you too will be ransomed from the power of the grave. With Christ one can live again!! Think about the glory that awaits the Saints. Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback. You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com
- REVELATION 14:1-5
A Summary of Revelation 14:1-5 Our study will focus on Revelation 14:1-5 which reads, “ And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God”. Matthew 23:9 tells us that Almighty God is our Father. Jesus Christ, the Son of God is the Lamb which was slain to redeem us from sin. He blotted out the Mosaic Laws which were against us (Galatians 3:19, 24, Galatians 4:4-5; Colossians 2:14) and gave Himself as an eternal sacrifice once and for all. The one hundred and forty-four thousand are Israelites who have accepted Christ’s sacrifice. There are twelve thousand each from the tribes of Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulon, Joseph and Benjamin. Hebrews 12:22 refers to Mount Sion as the city of the Living God and the heavenly Jerusalem. Earthly Jerusalem is referred to as Zion. Revelation 14:3 tells us that those around the throne were redeemed and sang a new song. Those persons are Jews who accepted and believed that Jesus Christ would be humans’ liberator. This is not telling us that they are now in heaven around God’s throne but is pointing out their relationship to God. Presently they are all asleep awaiting the resurrection of the just. The redeemed were not defiled with women and they were the first-fruits unto God and to the Lamb. Prophetically woman refers to Church (Jeremiah 6:2, 2 Corinthians 11:2). Not being defiled by women means that they were never involved in false worship. They were spiritual virgins obedient to the Commandments of God and His Ordinances. They were the first persons to access salvation. The Ten Commandments which God has given to everyone and which must be obeyed by all who desires to be in His Glorious Kingdom. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant. Nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s. Revelation 14:1 tells us that the redeemed had their Father’s name written in their foreheads. This means that their knowledge is centred on sound religion. They never engaged in any act of disobedience to God’s words. Thus, in them was found no guile or sinful actions. Jesus actually met a man who had no guile. His name was Nathaniel. When He met Nathaniel He said, ‘ Behold an Israelite indeed in whom there is no guile”. John 1:47 Today many of us claim to be followers of Christ and hope to inherit eternal life. How can we know if we are walking right? How can we identify those who are walking right? Luke 6:43-49, tells us clearly. It reads , “For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to Me, and heareth My sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” Let us earnestly seek to please God so that we too can be assured of everlasting life when God creates a new heaven and a new earth. - THE TRUTH ABOUT EASTER
Was Jesus crucified on a Friday and resurrected on a Sunday? Is there a Good Friday and an Easter Sunday? This is a popular accepted belief but is it right? Matthew 15:9 tells that our worship will be in vain if we follow the traditions of man instead of obeying God’s truth as found in His words. How can Jesus have been in the grave for three days and three nights if He died Friday afternoon and rose before sunrise on Sunday? This would have been two nights and one day. Jesus said being in the grave for three days and three nights was a sign of His Messiah-ship. Matthew 12: 38-40, “ Then certain of the scribes and the Pharisees answered, saying, Master we would see a sign from Thee. But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seekest after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s (fish’s) belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. ” Jesus clearly stated the difference between day and night. In John 11:9-10: Jesus asked, ‘ are there not twelve hours in a day? If any walk in the day he stumble not because he seeth the light of the world. But if a man walk, in the night he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.’ Jesus clearly stated that after three days He would rise again. (Matthew 16:21; 20:19). He proved right because on the third day, God resurrected Him. When Jesus rose from the grave, He became our Saviour and Redeemer. If we accept His sacrifice, we have obtained the right to call God, Father. After His resurrection, Jesus remained on the earth for forty days before He returned to His Father’s throne. Before He died Jesus openly declared that He would be resurrected on the third day. Therefore, the rulers tried to secure His body by sealing the sepulchre with a huge stone. Pilate gave orders that His grave be made secure because he was afraid someone would take away the body and then say that He had risen (Matthew 27: 62-66). Pilate did not understand the power of God. Jesus was not crucified on a Friday neither was He resurrected on a Sunday. This is a Babylonian tradition which honours Baal, the god of the rising sun, who is also Satan. This is why sunrise services are important at Easter; it is an old pagan Babylonian practice for Baal worshippers. Some have wondered why the word Easter is in the Bible. (Acts 12:1-4) If you read carefully you will understand that it was not the Children of God who intended to celebrate Easter but it was evil King Herod and other idolaters. This was his Roman custom because they did not worship the true and living God. Years later when the Romans claimed to have accept Jesus Christ, they transferred all their pagan practices to Christianity and polluted God’s truth. They hid the Bible for years and so the populace had no opportunity to know God’s words. Whatever the Roman church taught them they accepted. That is why today Christianity is tainted by the filthiness of paganism. Nimrod was Noah’s great grandson and he built the tower of Babel and the city of Babylon. The word Babel means confusion and it is from this word that we get the word Babylon. Nimrod’s wife was Semiramis. After his death she began to tell the people that he was living in the sun and had become the sun god. This was the beginning of sun worship. She also got pregnant and claimed that it was Nimrod who was now a god impregnated her. This was a master plan from the devil as he inspired her to imitate Jesus’ conception. Her son Tammuz was born on the twenty fifth of the tenth month (December). When her son Tammuz died, she proclaimed a forty days annual sorrowing period. Today this is the period we call Lent. Semiramis is also called Astarte, who is the goddess of fertility. For this reason, during this pagan period there are Easter eggs and bunnies and the festivity of carnival. When Israel began to engage in the pagan worship of Astarte, God spoke about it to Jeremiah, the prophet. J eremiah 7:18-19, The children gather wood and the fathers kindle the fire and the women knead the dough to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke Me to anger saith the Lord; do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces . The cake which they usually bake is now modernized and called bun. When Was Jesus Crucified? Jesus was crucified during the Week of Unleavened Bread. The first day of this Feast is on the fifteenth of Abib and it is called the High Day Sabbath. (John 19:31) The weekly Sabbath comes after it. Therefore there were two Sabbaths in the week in which Jesus was crucified. The two Sabbaths are the 15th of Abib which is the first day of the Week of Unleavened Bread and the weekly Sabbath. Jesus had two meals with His Disciples on the fourteenth of Abib. He had the Passover with the twelve and the Lord Supper with the eleven because Judas had gone to complete the plan to betray Him. Jesus was crucified in the midst of the week according to the two-fold prophecy in Daniel 9:27, ‘ and he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate even until the consummation and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.’ The midst of the week is Wednesday. Wednesday begins on the night that we call Tuesday night and end Wednesday evening when the sun is setting. God’s day begin at sunset. Gen. 1:5, and the evening and the morning was the first day. Today many do not know this because of the changes that were made by false teachers. Daniel 7:25, and he shall speak great words against the Most High and think to change times and laws and they shall be given into his hand until time and times and dividing of time. When was Jesus placed on the cross? Mark 15:25, 33-34 tells us, and it was the third hour and they crucified Him. When did he die? And when the sixth hour was come there was darkness over the land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabach-thani. Which is being interpreted, My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken Me . (Matthew 27:45-46) Jesus became accursed for us. Not only was He hung on a tree as a common sinner but He was placed on the Roman’s pagan symbol of worship. The cross is a pagan symbol and in Jesus’ context it is referred to as a tree. Deut. 21:22-23, and if a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he be put to death and thou hang him on a tree. His body shall not remain on the tree but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day, for he that is hanged is accursed of God, that thy land be not defiled which the Lord thy God giveth thee . The Jewish law forbids dead bodies to remain on trees/cross not only on the sacred days but any day. If the accused is not dead by sunset the bones would be broken to speed up death. Jesus’ bones were not broken as was prophesied by David in Psalm 34:20, He keepeth all His bones not one of them is broken. John 19:33 tells us, But, when they came to Jesus and saw that He was dead already, they break not His legs. Having looked at the length of time Jesus said that He would have been in the grave; let us now use identify the time of death and resurrection. Time of Jesus’ Death & Resurrection Bible time is divided in hours or watch. Every watch lasts for three hours namely 6 o’clock to 9 o’clock, 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock, 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock, 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock. The first hour in the watch is referred to as the first hour. Therefore, the first hour would be approximately 6 o’clock. Jesus went on the cross at the third hour which would be about 9 o’clock; He died at the ninth hour which is about 3 o’clock. Jesus was laid in the grave and remained there for three days and three nights. Let us accept that the 9rd hour is 3:00p.m. and calculate His resurrection . Wednesday 3:00p.m.- Thursday 3:00p.m = 24 hrs. Thursday 3:00p.m- Friday = 24 hrs. Friday 3:00p.m – Sabbath 3:00p.m = 24 hrs. Total 72 hours Remember to calculate the night before the day L et us now summarise the lesson . Jesus ate the Passover and the Lord Supper on a Wednesday night (Bible time) Tuesday night (Roman time) He was taken in after the Supper. They interrogated and abused Him throughout the night. On Wednesday morning he was led to the hill to be crucified. He died in the afternoon. Thursday was the fifteenth of Abib, the High Day Sabbath. The first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Friday – preparation day for the weekly Sabbath. The followers of Christ also prepared spice to anoint His body. Saturday (7th day) – weekly Sabbath. As soon as Sabbath was ending the women ran to the tomb to embalm Jesus. When they came, He was already risen. Previously the word dawn meant going towards and not early morning. Jesus was resurrected on the Sabbath (Saturday) before the beginning of Sunday night (Bible time) and Saturday night (Roman time). When the women came to the tomb Sabbath afternoon, Jesus was already resurrected. After a restless night Mary Magdalene returned to the tomb a second time early Sunday morning. At this time, she met the resurrected Jesus. (Matthew 28:1-6; John 20: 1-18) Think carefully about this Bible truth. Writer- A. E. Fisher We welcome your questions and feedback. - Contending for the Faith (Part 2)
A STUDY OF THE LETTER OF JUDE Jude verse 3 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude spoke about the common salvation. What is the common salvation? The word common means that it is something for everyone regardless of class, colour or race. The word salvation comes from the root word salvage which means to save, rescue, retrieve, reclaim or to recover. Before you had accepted Christ, you were lost in sin but after accepting Christ as your personal Saviour you were rescued from the clutches of the devil. Acts 4:12 tells us, “ Neither is there salvation in any other name: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” The plan of salvation is God’s free gift to mankind and it is available to everyone. Jesus died to redeem everyone regardless of our situations. His love knows no boundary. To obtain this wonderful salvation you must first hear, believe and accept the Gospel of Christ. After you have accepted it, you must live in obedience to God’s word. Your life cannot be repaired spiritually unless you accept and follow Jesus as your Redeemer. Romans 1:16 tells us, “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first and also to the Greek .” Jude encourages us to earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. Faith in this context refers to doctrinal beliefs and teachings; not our beliefs or teachings but that which God has set in place for us to obey. Hebrews 2:1 reminds us, “ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” I will list a few of the tenets of doctrine which the Lord has given to us: salvation through Jesus Christ, baptism by immersion in water and being led by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God to all who follow after righteousness; it is the power of God and it is not a third person. Other tenets include adhering to the Ten Commandments which were written by God on tables of stone, follow a diet of clean foods as outlined by God and partake of the Lord Supper once annually. Doctrinal truths include knowing that Jesus sp ent three days and three nights in the grave and there will be a new heaven and a new earth and the saints shall dwell on the earth. The biblical teachings of Christ have not changed. He got it from His Father and He gave it to us. While He was on earth, He lived by the word of God, His Father. The Scriptures tell us that after fasting for forty days and forty nights Jesus was hungry for the literal food and Satan came and tempted Him to create bread from stones but Jesus rebuked him by telling him that, “ Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God . ” It is the Word of God that gives life and leads us in the Light. David said in Psalm 119:105 , Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path .” Psalm 119:130 further tells us, “ The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple .” To earnestly contend for something means that you hold unto it dearly; you would never do anything which opposes or compromises that belief. You hold values and teachings so sacred that you would willingly be sacrificed than to compromise. Today there are many persons who claim to be Christians but they are not living in obedience to the word of God. Thus, it is that the label of Christian is often meaningless and does not promote the holy righteous standard of God. It is more profound if one be called a Child of God. When you are true to God and live by His words, you are a Child of God. Every Child of God is a saint. Even the word saint has been corrupted because when many think of the word saint they think about persons from a particular faith who are dead and are now being worshipped. Such worship is idolatrous. A saint is a genuine Child of God and is a saint not by the decree of man but by the words of God. Do you want to be a saint for the Lord? If you do then listen, understand and follow the advice given in Jeremiah 6:16, “Thus saith the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see and ask for old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” If you should take a close look in Christendom, you will realise that persons have deviated from the Good Way and are walking in a path which leads to damnation. As we continue in this study you will become more aware of how far we are going away from God. We will understand that not every worship is acceptable to God and will know that many who possess a godly intention will be sent to destruction in the time of judgement. Through a thorough study of Jude, we will be identifying doctrinal errors and then we can amend our ways and our doings. Writer: A. E. Fisher We welcome your questions and feedback. - GOD’S PLAN OF A COMMON SALVATION
Jude verse 3“ Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Let us focus on what is meant by the common salvation as mentioned in Jude 3. What is salvation and why is it referred to as common? Salvation is for everyone because Jesus died for everyone. The common plan of salvation began when God made the covenant with Abraham. When Jesus met the woman at the well at Samaria and they were discussing salvation and worship He told her that salvation is of the Jews. This does not mean that God was only concerned about the redemption of the Jews. He loves everyone equally but He had made a covenant with Abraham because He wanted a people who would live holy and be an example to the world. Jesus is from the lineage of Abraham. It is not that Abraham obtained special privileges; Abraham was faithful and obedient to God. We obtain salvation through obedience and faith in Jesus Christ and through His mercies we are saved from the guilt and penalty of sin. Ephesians 2:8 tells us, ‘ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. ’ The idea of salvation implies deliverance, safety, preservation, soundness, redemption and healing. Salvation includes justification, redemption, grace, propitiation, glorification, imputation, forgiveness and sanctification. Thus, it is that Brother Paul said, “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first and also to the Greeks.” Salvation through Jesus Christ saves you from the clutches of the evil one, thus it is that Satan does not have dominion over you. Before you had accepted Christ, you were slated to die both physically and spiritually. Romans 3:23 & 24 remind us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that we are justified freely through the redemption of Jesus’ blood. Have you stopped to ask yourself what would be the state of the world’s inhabitants if Christ had not died for us and offered us the opportunity to repent of our wickedness and return to God? The love of Christ is awesome and sufficient to answer to your needs. If you are paying scant regards to the love of God and the plan of salvation, Romans 6:23 reminds you that, “ the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Every true worshipper of God is committed to God. The pleasures of this world do not hold any form of attraction to the True Worshipper. It is impossible to serve two masters at the same time. While this is true, observation will reveal that worldly customs in many forms have become dominant in places of worship. This tells us that people are moving away from true worship and are now worshipping other gods except the God of heaven. That is why Jesus said, “ not everyone that says Lord, Lord shall enter .” Today Christendom is in trouble because many are only expressing a form of godliness. How can you differentiate between the true believer and the false worshippers? The true believer is the one who is living as a real Child of God and is in agreement with what Paul wrote to the brethren at Galatia. Galatians 2:20 says, “ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me . ” If you are a believer can you truthfully say that you are crucified with Christ? Bear in mind that you cannot reach a conclusion unless you understand what it means to be crucified in Christ. Examine yourself inwardly; are your thoughts Christlike? Would Jesus agree with the way in which you think? Look at your outward appearance. Have you changed your appearance or your sexual orientation? How about your dressing? Does your dressing show the difference between godliness and ungodliness? Or do you believe that how you dress as a Child of God does not matter? There are many who say that it is the heart that matters; do you know that everything that you do comes from your heart; therefore, if your heart is not right your dressing, speech, behaviour, manner of worship and everything else that affect your salvation cannot be godly. There are many who believe that salvation comes by works inclusive of doing penance or afflicting oneself even to the point of suffering crucifixion. This is not a requirement from God and separate and apart from adorning yourself or behaving in a godly manner. Remember that salvation is a free gift; your work as in your physical work of your goodness cannot lead you into salvation. The divine order is first you obtain salvation then your spiritual change is manifested through your works. You must first recognize that you are a sinner who needs to be saved by grace. The believer is saved by conforming totally to Christ. Therefore, I implore those who have not yet accepted Christ to submit to the authority of the Lord. Those who have forged a relationship are being warned to walk in holiness before God. Remember that God is to be held in reverence and no hypocrite shall stand before Him. If you are insincere, you will be rewarded for your evil. You might fool man but you cannot fool God. Romans 13:11 warns us, “ And that knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now, is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” Jesus Christ is coming soon all the signs are foretelling His appearance. TRUE CONVERSION- GODLY TRANSFORMATION http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ Do I need to change my lifestyle? do i need to be converted? None of us was born perfect and everyone needs to repent and accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour. When you accept Christ as your personal Saviour you will be obedient to God. This is a sign of conversion. Nothing in life is static; there are always changes. This is also true of our individual lives. Our bodies change as we grow older and our lifestyle also changes. God does not expect us to remain in any sinful condition because He has given us the chance to repent and be a better person. Although it is important to do things which will cause physical changes for example males cutting their hair to ensure proper grooming the most essential change in your life is a spiritual change. Man was made in the image of God but sin marred that image. Romans 8:5-8 reminds us, “ For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God . The word carnal means to be sensual, wanton, lascivious, fleshly and animalistic. These verses are telling us that the natural person is more attuned to do wrong than to follow the precepts of God. Anyone who desires to obey God must become more attuned to God than with the world. One can only be attuned to God when one has been converted. How can you know if you are converted or know that someone is converted? What is expected of a converted person? Is there possibility that one can be converted yet carnal? Peter was a Disciple of Jesus and he loved the Lord. He was one of Jesus’ favourite workers yet he had a problem. He believed that Jesus was the Messiah but he also thought that Jesus would set up His Kingdom right then on the earth and destroy the dominance of the Romans. Thus, it was that Peter’s focus was a little out of line. Jesus recognised that Peter had a good heart but needed special assistance. We read in Luke 22: 31-32, “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fails not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. At first because of his unconverted state, Peter was unable to properly complete the tasks God had called him to do. However, later when he was converted Jesus gave him, his mandate. Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed My sheep . (John 21:15-17) Conversion was the changing point in Peter’s life. After his conversion he became a powerful Apostle of Christ. He was no longer afraid as he was when he denied Christ; he became very bold. Zacchaeus was another converted soul. He was extremely happy when he met Jesus. While Jesus was speaking with him. he realized that he was unconverted and needed Christ. Zacchaeus then confessed his sins. He said, “ Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. Jesus was pleased with him and told him, “ This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. When you are converted, you will seek to make restitution. Restitution means to give back anything which you had stolen. If you had told a lie about someone you must now speak the truth about what you had done; if you stole money or kill someone you must publicly admit your actions. There can be no conversion without restitution. Restitution clears the conscience and give you peace. A converted soul is easily identified because that individual operates differently from the unconverted. Converted souls speak, eat, dress, talk, walk and think different from others. The change in their lives is both inward and outward. You ought to know that whatever is within your heart is displayed on the outside. When Paul and Silas were imprisoned, they prayed and worshipped God and God delivered them with a mighty hand. There was an earthquake and a great shaking and the keeper of the prison thought that the prisoners had escape. He was about to commit suicide when the Apostle Paul called to him. The warder was relieved; then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. The jailer truly repented and was converted. When he heard the word, he immediately accepted. On receiving the gospel, he immediately became an evangelist by taking the gospel to his household. While Stephen was expounding the Gospel of Truth to the Jews, the people became extremely angry but their anger erupted when he told them that he saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God in heaven. When he spoke about what he saw the people began to stone him to death. Stephen called to God to receive his spirit. However, the most remarkable thing was that he asked the Lord not to lay the sin to the charge of the murderers. This showed that Stephen was truly converted. God clearly tells us how we ought to behave and how we can inherit eternal life. Acts 3:19 tells us, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted , that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord .” Isaiah 55:7 advises, “ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon .” In Matthew 18:3 Jesus said, " Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” A converted heart is more willing to obey God than to satisfy carnal desires. Therefore, a converted heart will live by the Laws of God Psalms 19:7 - The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Luke 21:36 - Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man. Let us pray Eternal Father, God of the Universe. Creator and Sustainer of all things. I give You the honour and majesty due to You. Lord, I am grateful for the chance to be a new creature in Christ Jesus. I thank You that You did not give up on me while I was rebelling against You. How can I express my gratitude for the opportunity to be named a child of the Most High God. It is my desire to be Your ambassador. Help me to remain humble and obedient. Please help me to keep my eyes focused on godly things and not on the rudiments of this ungodly world. I am grateful that I am no longer held captive by my carnal desires. Father I can feel Your forgiving and renewing love. Thanks for giving me a clear conscience. As I travel on this new journey, I know that there will be challenges but I am leaving everything in Your care. I ask that You continue to anoint me with Your power. Grant me the spiritual strength to keep on the garment of purity which You have placed on me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Writer - A. E. FISHER
